Parentage
ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
Controlled pollination took place in Germany.
The female parent, or the seed parent was floribunda rose ‘Friedrich Wörlein’ bred by W. Kordes' Söhne, 1963.
The male parent, or the pollen parent was floribunda rose ‘Circus’ bred by Herbert C. Swim, 1955.
The result of abovementioned cross pollination was a rather uniquely colored rose that starts off as yellow in the center and darkens outward to shades of orange, copper and apricot.
COMPARISON WITH PARENTS
The seed parent was characterised by deep yellow colour and medium sized flowers and the pollen parent was characterized by medium sized multicolored flowers with blend of delicate shades of yellow, pink, salmon-pink and pure red while the ‘Westerland’ variety has large, bright copper-orange flowers.
Also the pollen parent has low and compact growth and moderate fragrance, while ‘Westerland’ has vigorous growth and forms a large shrub, and its flowers have strong and spicy fragrance.
