Description

The Damask-Portland old rose ‘Sidonie’, introduced by Jean-Pierre Vibert in France before 1847 is distinguished by a deep fragrance and glowing pearl-pink flowers sometimes with light creamy or salmon tints depending on weather conditions. The flowers are gathered in small inflorescences on short stems, large and lush, divided into four parts, upon opening they fit tightly to one another – forming wonderful bouquets which is a classic feature of Portland roses. A winter-hardy and bushy plant, uncomplicated in care, which blooms abundantly repeatedly and is a wonderful choice for a Romantic garden.

It reaches a height of about 90 - 120 cm (2.9 - 3.9 ft), which grows up to 90 - 120 cm (2.9 - 3.9 ft) in height. Flowers are shiny pink, from medium to large size, up to 8.5 cm (3.3 in) in diameter, full, with about 26 - 40 petals, rosette-shaped, quartered (divided into four parts). They appear in small clusters of 3 - 5 blooms together. The colour is from bright salmon-pink to pearl-light-pink. The beauty of the flowers is supplemented with the strong Damask fragrance, delicious, fruity, and saturated. The first flowering in spring or summer is abundant and lush, more modestly repeated throughout the season with scattered late blooming.

The plants of this rose are upright, lush, tidy with coarse bright-green foliage composed of 7 leaflets and well armed with red prickles.

The susceptibility to diseases: susceptible to black spot. Frost-resistant - USDA Zone 4b - 9b. Grows better in a sunny ventilated place.
