Description

‘Sister Elizabeth’ is a charming, compact rose that forms symmetrical, rounded and gracefully arching plants. The blooms of this rose are reminiscent of Old Gallica Roses, with their perfectly formed rosettes and a distinctive button eye at the center. The lilac-pink flowers are medium sized and abundant, carrying a sweet, spicy fragrance that evokes the classic Old Rose charm. Each bloom boasts an impressive 120 petals, adding to its intricate beauty and delicate texture.

Exceptionally hardy and repeat flowering, ‘Sister Elizabeth’ is suitable for a wide range of climates, thriving in USDA Zones 5-11. Its compact size and refined appearance make it an excellent choice for smaller gardens or for gardeners seeking a versatile and elegant shrub rose.

Its low and neat habit makes it ideal for the front of borders, where it mingles beautifully with perennials and other plants. It can also be grown as a short, tidy hedge or in containers and pots, making it a versatile addition to any garden.

Name origin

Named after Sister Elizabeth, a Cistercian nun from the Holy Cross Abbey in Whitland, South Wales, who has long been a passionate rose lover.

Her enthusiasm for roses inspired David Austin to name his new rose variety ‘Skylark,’ following Sister Elizabeth's suggestion. She fondly remembers seeing and hearing a skylark during her first visit to David Austin’s nursery in 2007.
