A very special variety! Is a repeat bloomer, gracing gardens with its stunning blooms throughout the growing season. The rose typically blooms in flushes, providing an extended display of its captivating flowers from early summer until late fall.
The buds have a large oval shape. It belongs to the classic type, but the petals are slightly bent outward with the very first outer petals. The flowers are medium-large sized, about 8-10 cm in diameter, are very full and have cupped quartered flower form, giving an Old Rose appearance to this variety.
The color of the petals is dark burgundy, intense, with a slight bloom of burgundy-red undertones. After a while, the center of the bud may begin to brighten. The color saturation is dark, there is no variegation. The colour can change to a blackish crimson in cold weather.
By the number of petals, the flower belongs to the very full type, the number of petals varies from 60 to 80 on a flower. All flowers are collected in small clusters, from 5-6 flowers or seldomly singular.
The aroma of the rose is fruity, intense, and very strong. The scent is described as a complex and enchanting blend of sweet damask, fruity notes, and a hint of spice, containing notes of vanilla and honey jasmine. This amazing fragrance made this rose achieve the Gold Medal at the International Trials in Rome 2002 as the most fragrant rose.
The rose was classified by the breeder as a shrub rose. Forms quite large, upright, bushy and spreading shrub. Such bush type will be especially fit for parks or to decora large areas. The growth type is vigorous, with drooping basal shoots that have a height of 100-150 cm. The crown is large, spreading, and about 60 - 120 cm wide.
The leaves are standard size, oblong, dark green in color, and the surface is smooth and semi-glossy, providing an elegant backdrop for its stunning flowers. The veins are clearly visible on the back surface.
The originators stated that the flower has excellent disease immunity. The plant is resistant to rust and botrytis, in colder and dumpier climates somewhat susceptible to black spots and mildew. Pest resistance – not tested.
The bush has good decorative indicators and can be easily used in landscape design, and due to the color scheme, you can create a beautiful bouquet arrangement. However, due to high shoots, the bush is unstable during rain and strong winds. With severe weather, dampness, and constant precipitation, petals begin to deteriorate and fall off. Therefore, in such climate conditions it is recommended a good rose location on a full sun for this variety. While in hot and drier climate zones it is recommended to plant this rose in partial shade to prolong the flowering.
