Description
Low growing and compact rose variety which makes it perfect choice for any garden.
Large, very dark burgundy to purple-colored buds open into a large, gallica like flowers of a very deep crimson fading to a rich purple. The flowers have an average 8 cm (3”) diameter under normal conditions, they are very full, quartered rosette form and appear on the plant in small clusters of 5-9 blooms per stem. Average petals count under normal conditions is 110.
Highly fragrant variety with strong, old rose aroma. It repeats flowering well and blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Forms compact, upright plant with very prickly stems. Average plant height is 90 to 120cm (3' to 4'), width is up to 120cm (up to 4'). Leaves are dark-green, semi-glossy, veiny, and make a good contrast for its purple flowers. In general, very eye-catching rose and is perfect in the landscaping.
Name origin
'Prospero' is named for one of the characters in the play ‘The Tempest’ by William Shakespeare. The play was first presented at Whitehall Palace on 1 November 1611, and major part of the story is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, a complex and contradictory character, lives with his daughter Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel, an airy spirit.
