Description
The Centifolia rose (Centifolia, Gallica hybrid) "Petite de Hollande" is covered in early summer with a mass of small (4-5 cm) light pink to rich pink full flowers, which are highly fragrant and have a perfect shape, starting as cupped and becoming later flat, often with a button eye in the center. It is a once-blooming, compact, bushy rose of about 120 cm in height, with thorny stems and light green foliage.
The bush is attractive, with small double flowers in small clusters. The flowers are light pink, with a deeper pink color along the edges of the petals. Their size ranges from small to medium (5-7 cm), they are full (26-40 petals), and emit an intense fragrance. It forms a low, compact bush of about 45 - 120 cm in height and 90 - 105 cm in width. Blooming once in spring or summer, the flowering period lasts for several weeks. The medium, semi-glossy foliage consists of five leaflets. The plant is bushy, well-branched, and compact, making it suitable for a small garden.
The flowers are very free-blooming, highly fragrant, small, cup-shaped, full, clear pink with a deeper pink center. They open to flat with a button eye in the center, emerging from rounded buds, and bloom once in summer. Although it blooms only once, the flowering lasts several weeks.
Cold hardiness: USDA zone 4b to 9b. It is also a shade tolerant rose variety. The disease resistance is fairly good. Rain and heat resistance is also on a good level.
Pruning guide:This rose requires light pruning (removal of dead wood) or no pruning at all. Remove unproductive wood approximately every third year. Pay attention that this rose really requires minimal pruning, except for the removal of very old wood as it appears (after flowering), and possibly shortening any overgrowth by one-third in February.
Centifolia roses, also known as "Cabbage" or "Provence" roses, first appeared at the end of the 16th century as a cross between Autumn Damask and Alba roses. They typically have large globular flowers in white or pink and are not particularly repeat-flowering. All Centifolia roses are fragrant and extremely hardy, forming loose bushes with thorny stems and double, fragrant flowers blooming in summer.
