Description

The rose variety 'Pink Ghislaine de Féligonde' is a sport (a natural mutation) and possesses all the qualities of the famous «Ghislaine de Féligonde», but its small, pompon-like flowers have a magnificent color gradient from pale pink to ivory. This large, vigorous shrub or small climber is one of the best for semi-shaded or even almost shaded spots, where its colors will be brighter. It grows well in most regions, has high disease resistance, moderate repeat flowering, is easy to grow and infinitely graceful, so it will find its place in any garden.

When planted as a standalone shrub in an open location, this rose will be abundantly covered in early summer with light, fragrant clusters of small double flowers and demonstrates all its luxury and splendor, revealing its natural bohemian form. The flowers are sweet almond pink, small, about 4 cm (1.6 inches) in diameter, double to very double with of about 20 - 40 small petals, arranged in the shape of a rosette, gathered in clusters of 10 - 20 flower buds together; they appear on short shoots of the second year from small, pointed, bright pink buds.

It has a very double, cluster-like flowering form of lush pale pink flowers, which quickly become cream and then ivory in warm weather. In autumn, they acquire a more intense pink shade. Each flower is unique, and together the blooming creates a beautiful multi-colored effect. Their fragrance is quite light and musky. It sets small fruits - fleshy hips, which birds enjoy during the cold months. The flowers do not fade gracefully - this is the only drawback that can be found; it consists of a somewhat neglected appearance of withered flowers, which have a slightly off-white color and the petals slowly fall off spontaneously. It flowers abundantly throughout June, then again sporadically in summer and early autumn, provided there is sufficient soil moisture. In warmer climates, flowering begins earlier, pauses in July-August, and then resumes in September with the return of rains.

The strong plants of this rose demonstrate a naturally lush and gracefully rebellious form. It reaches about 250 - 300 cm (8.2 - 9.8 feet) in height and of about 100 - 200 cm (3.3 - 6.6 feet) in width, depending on growing conditions. Its long stems are flexible, with few prickles, covered with small, glossy foliage that maintains its fresh, bright green color throughout the season. It is a large, wide, climbing deciduous plant.

Very vigorous and disease-resistant, but somewhat prone to black spot if grown against a wall that receives too much sun. This rose has good frost resistance - suitable for growing in USDA Zones 6b to 9b. In the north, it requires winter protection.

Like other tall roses, such as «Sourire d'Orchidée» or «Seven Sisters», with which it harmonizes very well, it is incomparable in adding a touch of wild opulence when planted over overly formal flower beds. It perfectly suits an old fruit tree, a small column, and garden buildings, to which it lends a magical charm. Planted on an arch near a patio, it will create a poetic and softly fragrant pathway. It can be combined with large-flowered clematis of pink, blue, or pure white color; their autumn flowers blend perfectly. Thanks to its low maintenance and stunning lush form, it can be planted as a specimen plant or in a mixed hedge along with viburnum, mock orange, or lilac. Finally, it grows wonderfully and adapts well to cultivation in a large pot. 'Pink Ghislaine de Feligonde' is a vigorous yet graceful rose which blooms freely and naturally - a delicate romantic rose endowed with strength and energy!
