Description
The rose ‘Mortalisatis’ is a Hybrid Gallica rose that immediately captures attention with its unusual dark purple color, blending shades of purple, ruby, brown, and a subtle slate tone. Its large (9–10 cm), full flowers display an old-fashioned rosette shape, flattening out as they fully open. The petals, reminiscent of thick, luxurious velvet, appear expertly folded by hand. Blooming early, the flowers are borne singly or in small clusters, lasting a long time without being damaged by rain or heat. This once-flowering variety blooms abundantly, filling the air with a delightful, sweet fragrance.
‘Mortalisatis’ forms a large, upright, and slightly spreading plant, reaching about 170 cm in height and 150 cm in width. Its strong shoots are densely covered with red, downward-curving prickles of varying sizes, each with a broad base. The plant is vigorous and grows quickly. Its medium-green leaves are 3–5-pinnate, with long, pointed, oval leaflets that have finely serrated edges.
This rose is highly resistant to diseases and frost, making it a hardy and undemanding variety.
‘Mortalisatis’ is versatile in the garden, looking stunning when planted as a solitary specimen, in small groups, mixed borders, or as an accent in landscape compositions. It is also well-suited for use as a hedge.
