DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIETY
Throughout this description the common terms of color definition are employed. Phenotypic expression may vary with environmental, cultural and climatic conditions, as well as differences in conditions of light and soil.
FLOWER
The rose variety ‘Mariatheresia’ has a very repeat flowering habit. Blooms in flushes, the number of blooms per plant during the growing season is profuse, but there are too many to count.
Flower bud:
The flower buds are medium sized, about 3 cm long and 1.5 cm in diameter when the petals start to unfurl. The bud form is rounded with a pointed tip. When the sepals first divide, the bud color is light pink with darker pink blush on the tips. When the flower bud is half open, the colour changes to blush rosy pink.
The arrangement of the sepals is regular. The colour of the sepals is yellow-greenand on the lower surface is yellow-green. The shape is lanceolate with downy upper surface texture and glandular lower surface. There are 3 slightly appendaged sepals and there are 2 unappendaged sepals with slightly hairy edges.
Bloom:
The flowers are medium sized, the average open diameter is about 6 - 8 cm. They are borne mostly singly, or in small clusters of 1-15 blooms having flat shape. When the flower first open the flower form is cupped. As the flower fully opens it displays a nicely formed quartered rosette. Flowers are very full, the number of petals under normal conditions is about 80 - 90.
The colour on the upper and on lower sides of the petals is rose pink. Under the normal growing conditions no variegation is observed on the flowers. The general tonality of the flowers at the end of the first day is rose pink and at the end of the third day is light pink.
Fragrance:
The fragrance of ‘Mariatheresia’ is light and sweet.
PLANT
Although it is classified by Tantau as Floribunda rose, its robust and vigorous growth demonstrates strong Shrub rose parentage. Forms very strong, upright, outwardly and bushy plant. During the season it produces a large number of flowering stems, which grow into curving trails and lend the variety a romantic flair. The mature and well-established plant reaches the height of 100 - 150 cm and the width of about 70 - 120 cm.
Due to its robust growth and good health it can be used in landscaping and park decoration. Looks good equally great in hedges as well as in mixed borders or in rose borders, mixed with grassess or with perennials.
Foliage:
The foliage is dense and abundant. There are usually 5 to 7 leaflets on the normal mid stem leaves, but 5 most often, including a terminal leaflet. The leaves are medium-sized, glossy, and the edges are serrated, the type of serration is single and medium. The new foliage on the upper surface and on the lower side is green. The old foliage on the upper side is dark green.
Wood:
The colour of the new wood is yellow-brown-green with some red-purple intonations, the bark is smooth. The mature wood has slightly darker grayish-green colour, the bark is smooth, with some rough patches.
Prickles:
The quantity of prickles on the main canes from base is many, the number per stem length is about 12 - 15 per 10 cm of the stem length. On laterals from main canes there are few prickles, about 5 - 6 per 10 cm of the stem length. They have deep concave form, the length is about 7 - 8 mm. The colour of the young prickles is medium brown purple, the mature prickles have dark brown gray colour.
