Description
"Reine Victoria" was one of the most cultivated roses of the 19th century. This stunning Bourbon rose features charming lilac-pink flowers with a shell-like, cup-shaped globular form. They are perfectly poised above the foliage and exude an enchanting floral fragrance reminiscent of lilac, rose, and peony. It blooms beautifully throughout the summer, with its wonderfully fragrant, cup-shaped flowers appearing in a deep pink hue tinged with lilac.
Initially, the blooms are perfectly spherical, filled with up to 40 silky petals. After the lush spring display, new flowers continually appear. In autumn, the flowers grow on long stems with rounded buds and bloom frequently.
The shrub is vigorous with an elegant habit, growing up to 150 cm in height and 120 cm in width. Its foliage is lush, featuring 5, 6, or 7 leaflets, with a matte pale green tone and slightly wavy, sharply serrated oval-pointed leaves. The young growth is light yellow-green with red edges on red stems. The stiff shoots are adorned with numerous large, broad red prickles. This rose is particularly suitable for small gardens.
The blooms are charmingly cabbage-like, round, double, and grouped in small bouquets. They exhibit a stunning old rose color with a silvery underside and emit a true rose fragrance. According to other sources, the rose has an intense fruity and spicy aroma. The flowers of "La Reine Victoria" range from medium to large (6-8 cm), are deeply cup-shaped, and contain 40 petals. When they first open, they appear almost spherical, composed of many short, strongly curved silky petals in a rich lilac-pink shade with a pale silvery-pink reverse. The petals are thin, nearly transparent, and sensitive to rain.
The flowers appear in clusters of 3-9 and bloom in waves at regular intervals until late autumn, with a few sporadic flowers in between. The bush is very elegant, slender, upright, and vigorous, with good foliage and matte pale green leaves. This variety is highly susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot, making it better suited for dry, hot climates. Without pruning, it can reach 1.8 m in height and 1 m in width. The bush looks better when planted near a support, as the stems tend to bend under the weight of the flowers.
