DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIETY
The following is a description of rose ‘Kordes Jubilee’, using colour references of The Royal Horticultural Society (London, The UK) Colour Chart, 2001 except where common terms of color are used.
FLOWER
Blooms abundantly in flushes throughout the season, starting from late spring or early summer, and until the frosts.
Flower bud:
The flower bud is large, upon opening is about 4 cm (1.6 inches) in length from base of receptacle to distal end of bud and about 2 cm (0.8 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The bud form is short and globular.
When the sepals first unfold, the bud color is dark red (Group 53B to Group 46B). When the bus is ¼ open, the upper surface of petals is white (Group 155B) in middle zone with basal zone medium yellow orange (Group 11A) and intonations of medium purple red (Group 61C) in marginal zone. The lower surface of the bud is medium yellow orange (Group 16B) in the basal zone, red pink (Group 47C) in the middle zone, and red pink (Group 48A) in the marginal zone.
The colour of the sepals on the upper surface and the lower surface is medium brown green (Group 146C). The sepals are large, with the length of the sepals of about 2 – 2.2 cm (0.8 – 0.9 inches) and the width of about 1 – 1.3 cm (0.4 – 0.5 inches). They have weak foliaceous appendages on 3 of the five sepals; the apex is apiculate and the base is flat at union with receptacle. The surface texture of the upper side of the sepals is very pubescent and the lower surface is moderately pubescent. The margins are lightly pubescent. There are few to none stipitate glands present on sepals.
Peduncle is long and very strong, with about 7 – 9 cm (2.8 - 3.5 inches) average length and of 4 - 5 mm (0.16 - 0.20 inches) average diameter. The colour of the peduncle is medium brown green (Group 146C) with intonations of dark brown purple (Group 183B). There is a heavy anthocyanin, typically over 80% of peduncle, have leathery texture, flowers held upright.
Bloom:
The flowers are large for a hybrid tea rose, when fully open the average flower diameter is about 12 – 13 cm (4.7 – 5 inches) and the average flower height is about 6 cm (2.5 inches). The flowers have cupped shape, when viewed from the side upon opening on the upper part and the lower part is flat. Fully opened flower has flattened convex shape on the upper part and flat on the lower part.
The colour of the ‘Kordes Jubilee’ is very complex.
Upon opening, the outermost petals on the outer side are dark yellow (Group 15A) with intonations of red pink (Group 43C) on marginal zone. Meanwhile the inner side of the outermost petals is dark yellow (Group 14B) with intonations of red pink (Group 46D) in marginal zone. The innermost petals on the outer side are yellow-orange (Group 14D) and medium yellow orange (Group 13C) on the inner side with light yellow (Group 15D) in basal zone. Upon opening, basal petal spots have no distinctive coloration at petal base.
After opening, the outermost petals on the outer side are light yellow (Group 13D) in basal zone, light yellow with intonations of pink (Group 43D) in middle zone, and medium purple red (Group 61C) in marginal zone; while the inner side of the outermost petals is light yellow (Group 13D) in basal zone, light yellow (Group 13D) with intonations of pink (Group 43D) in middle zone, and medium purple red (Group 61C) in marginal zone. The innermost petals on the outer side are medium yellow (Group 8A) in basal zone, medium yellow (Group 8D) in middle zone, and red pink (Group 53D) in marginal zone. The inner side of the innermost petals is medium yellow (Group 8A) in basal zone, light yellow (Group 8D) in middle zone, and light red pink (Group 38B) in marginal zone. After the opening, there is no distinctive coloration at petal base observed.
The general tonality of the open flowers is bi-color light yellow (Group 16D) with red pink (Group 47D). By the end of the 4th day no change in the general tonality is observed. Afterwards, the general tonality becomes lighter, light yellow (Group 8D) with red pink (Group 53C).
On the plant the flowers last fairly long, about 5 to 8 days. As a cut flower, 4-5 days. Senesced petals drop away cleanly.

Parentage
ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
The variety 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' originated from a controlled crossing in a breeding program of two distinct parents during the summer of 2003. The crossing was between an ‘un-named seedling’, the seed parent, and another ‘un-named seedling’, the pollen parent by the same inventor.
BACKGROUND OF THE VARIETY
The seeds obtained were sown in the subsequent winter. The resulting young plants were assessed and displayed unique physical and biological traits. A singular rose plant, distinguished by its superior characteristics, was chosen from the seedling beds and reproduced through asexual propagation for further examination. This novel and distinct rose variety is designated as 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee'.
SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY
The rose variety 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' is characterized by the following unique qualities, such as:
-
Uniform growth and flowering;
-
Abundant attractive, recurrent flowers;
-
Attractive and abundant foliage; and
-
Resistance to diseases encountered in landscapes and gardens.
The unique combination of characteristics found in 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' sets it apart from previously known rose cultivars, according to the inventor. These goals were largely achieved, making 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' distinct from all other varieties.
As part of a rose development initiative, Tim-Hermann Kordes germinated seeds resulting from the mentioned hybridization. He then assessed and observed the resulting seedlings in a controlled environment in Offenseth-Sparrieshoop, Germany. The seedlings displayed unique physical and biological traits. In May 2004, the new rose plant 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' was singled out from the seedling beds for asexual propagation and further assessment. The initial asexual propagation of 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' occurred through budding in July 2004 at the inventor's nursery in Offenseth-Sparrieshoop, Germany.
The controlled environment propagations, both initial and subsequent, illustrate that 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' consistently reproduces its distinctive traits in successive generations of asexual reproduction.
COMPARISON WITH PARENTS
The 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' may be distinguished from its seed parent, an ‘un-named seedling’, by the following combination of characteristics:
-
'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' has a nostalgic flower shape, whereas the ‘un-named seedling’ has a pointed flower shape.
-
'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' has a high resistance to blackspot, whereas the ‘un-named seedling’ has an average resistance.
The 'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' may be distinguished from its pollen parent, an ‘un-named seedling’, by the following combination of characteristics:
-
'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' has a bi-color yellow and pink flower, whereas the ‘un-named seedling’ has a yellow flower.
-
'Korgotfun' / 'Kordes Jubilee' has a very double petal count, whereas the ‘un-named seedling’ has a semi-double petal count.
