Petals are quite thick, have an obtuse shape with round apex and rounded cuneate base which reflex slightly. The edges have a point in the center of a margin. The length of the petals is about 2.5 - 4.0 cm and the width is about 1.5 – 3.0 cm. The petals arrangement if quartered nostalgic cupped.
There are about 5 – 10 petaloids per flower. They have a length of about 1.5 cm and the width of about 1 cm. The colour of the inner and of the outer side is dark red (Group 53B). Petaloids have spatulate shape with a point in center of margin; the apex is obtuse, and the base is attenuate. Their margins are undulated, with point in center of margin.
Fragrance:
The fragrance is light.
Reproductive parts:
Pistils number is abundant, there are about 45 present on an average flower.
Stigmas location is slightly superior in position to anthers, they have light yellow orange colour (Group 158A).
Styles are about 7 mm long and have light green colour (Group 157B) with medium purple red (Group 54A) intonations at the apex.

Foliage:
This rose variety has abundant foliage. There are usually 7 leaflets on normal leaves in the middle of a stem. They have average length of 14 cm and the average width of 9.5 cm. The leave texture is lathery, the upper side of leaflet is semi glossy and the underside is matte, venation pattern is pyramidal net.
Young foliage has medium brown green colour (Group 147B) on the upper and on the lowers surface. The mature foliage is dark brown green (Group 147A) on the upper leaf surface and medium brown green (Group 147B) on the lower surface. There is dark brown purple (Group 183C) anthocyanin intonation present on juvenile leaf margins, and developing leaves.
Stipules have an average length of 15 mm between the tips of the stipule. Main body of stipule is 5 mm in width. They have light green colour (Group 144B) with dark brown purple (Group 183A) anthocyanin intonation along the mid-rib of upper side of the stipule. The base of the stipule is winged and the apex is apiculate, the margins have stipitate glands.
Petiole has an average length of about 1cm, and diameter is 2 mm on average. Petiole colour is dark brown green (Group 146B) with medium brown purple (Group 183D) anthocyanin intonation along the mid-rib of the upper side. There are a few small prickles underneath the petiole and the petiole’s margins have stipulate glands.
Petiole rachis is about 20 mm in length on average, and the diameter is about 1.5 to 2.0 mm. It has medium brown green colour (Group 146C) with dark brown purple (Group 183B) anthocyanin intonation present on the upper side.
Leaflets:
The average size of the terminal leaflet is about 5.5 cm in length and about 3.5 cm in width. The Leaflets have ovate shape with obovate base and acute apex. They have leathery texture with semi-glossy upper side and matte lower side, edges are serrated and the venation pattern is reticulate. Leaves arrangement is odd pinnate.
Wood:
The young wood has light green (Group 145A) with dark brown purple (Group 183C) intonations and smooth surface.
The older wood becomes a bit darker, medium green (Group 144A) and the texture remains smooth.
Prickles:
There number of prickles on the normal flowering stem is about 6 per 10 cm of the stem. They have an average length of 7 mm and deep concave shape.
The colour of the young prickles is medium brown purple (Group 182A) with dark purple red (Group 185A) anthocyanin. As the prickles mature the colour changes to medium brown (Group 177D).
Disease resistance:
‘Florentine’ proved that it can be successfully grown in USDA zones 6 to 9 without winter protection, in colder climates requires protection from frosts in winter time.
It showed the above average resistance to powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca pannosa), rust (P. disciflorum), blackspot (Diplocarpon rosae), and botrytis (Botrytis cinerea) diseases under normal growing conditions.

Parentage
BACKGROUND OF THE VARIETY
A climbing rose ‘Florentina‘ is originated from a controlled crossing in a breeding program of two distinct parents during the summer of 2002. The crossing was between an un-named seedling, the seed parent, and another un-named seedling, the pollen parent, from the same inventor.
The resulting seeds were planted during the following winter. The resulting seedlings were evaluated and exhibited distinctive physical and biological characteristics. The new rose plant was selected as a single plant from the seedling beds due to its superior characteristics and asexually propagated for further evaluation. This new and distinctive rose variety is named ‘KORtrameilo’ / ‘Florentina’.
SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY
The objective of the hybridization was to create a new and distinct rose plant with unique qualities, such as:
-
Uniform growth and flowering;
-
Abundant attractive, recurrent flowers;
-
Attractive and abundant foliage; and
-
Resistance to diseases encountered in landscapes and gardens.
This combination of qualities is not present in prior rose cultivars known to the inventor. These objectives have been substantially achieved and in that distinguish ‘KORtrameilo’ from all other varieties.
As part of a rose development program, Tim-Hermann Kordes germinated seeds from the aforementioned hybridization and conducted evaluations and observations on the resulting seedlings in a controlled environment in Offenseth-Sparrieshoop, Germany. The resulting seedlings exhibited distinctive physical and biological characteristics. The new rose plant ‘KORtrameilo’ was selected in May, 2003 from the seedling beds to be asexually propagated for further evaluation. The first asexual propagation of ‘KORtrameilo’ was done by budding to seedling understocks in July, 2003 at the inventor's nursery in Offenseth-Sparrieshoop, Germany. This initial and other subsequent propagations conducted in controlled environments demonstrate that ‘KORtrameilo’ reproduces true to type in successive generations of asexual reproduction.
COMPARISON WITH PARENTS
The new rose plant may be distinguished from its seed parent, an un-named seedling, by the following combination of characteristics:
-
‘KORtrameilo’ has very double medium red flowers, whereas the un-named seedling has semi-double dark red flowers.
-
‘KORtrameilo’ has better disease resistance than the un-named seedling.
The new rose plant may be distinguished from its pollen parent, an un-named seedling, by the following combination of characteristics:
-
‘KORtrameilo’ has large flowers and a climbing growth habit, whereas the un-named seedling has medium sized flowers and a bushy growth habit.
-
‘KORtrameilo’ has excellent disease resistance, whereas the un-named seedling only has moderate disease resistance.
