Description
Captivating, very bright and easily recognizable dark yellow flowers with orange border appear on a plant against very dark green, large, and glossy foliage. Has excellent tolerance to heat and rain, lasts impressively long both on a plant and as a cut flower.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY
The variety has recurrent blooming habit, has ability to produce flowers year-round under greenhouse conditions. In the garden blooms in flushes from summer until frosts.
Flower bud:
Flower buds are large, have an ovoid shape. When sepals start to open the colour is deep yellow with orange-red tip, when half-open the colour of the bud is the same deep yellow with dark orange edges of the petals. They appear on the plant mostly singly or in small clusters of 3 to 5 blooms.
Sepals are large, have yellow green colour. There are 3 appendaged sepals with large extensions and 2 unappendaged sepals with smooth edges.
The peduncles are very strong and erect, having a glabrous texture and yellow green colour.
The flowering stems are very strong, about 70 - 100 cm (28 to 40 inches), which makes them perfect for a cut flower.
Bloom:
The flowers are large, the diameter of the open flower is about 12 – 15 cm (5 to 6 inches), and very tall. They are double, high-centered. As the flower ages the outer petals curl back but the most inner petals remain curled inwards, almost never revealing the center of the flower.
The colour of the just opened flowers is very dark yellow, the edges of the petals are very often of a dark orange colour. As the flowering progresses the color persists unchanged, only the edges change their colour to dark yellow. Closer to the end of the flowering the colour fades to light yellow.
Petals:
Petals are large, have thick and smooth texture. They hang on and dry out on the plant, therefore the deadheading is required to keep the plant neat, though the variety has not tendency to form hips.
They last on a plant for quite a long time – about 12 – 16 days, as a cut flower – about 12 – 14 days.
Fragrance:
Has very light to no fragrance.
PLANT
The growth habit is strong and vigorous. Forms upright and narrow plant. The mature and well-established rose has a height of about 80 120 cm, and the width of about 50 – 70 cm.
Foliage:
The foliage has alternate arrangement, compound with about 3 to 5 leaflets. On the normal flowering stem there are about 10 to 15 compound leaves. The leaves are large, have dark green colour and leathery, glossy texture.
Wood:
The new wood has medium green colour with red-purple pigmentation and smooth bark. The old wood has medium green colour, the bark is smooth.
Prickles:
There is a normal quantity of prickles on the main stems. On the flowering stems there are few prickles.
They are medium sized, about 8 to 10 mm (0.3 to 0.4 inches). The shape is triangular and the colour is medium brown purple when young; the mature prickles have grayish-purple colour.
Small prickles:
There are no small prickles present on the main stems and on the laterals.
Disease resistance:
The variety showed good resistance to black spots and mildew under normal greenhouse conditions. In a garden conditions the variety has moderate resistance to black spots and mildew. The resistance to botrytis and rust is good. Pest resistance – not tested.
Being a florists type of a rose has moderate winter hardiness, recommended for USDA zones 6 and warmer. Has a very good resistance to heat and rain.
