Description
The old rose "Hermosa", one of the descendants of the Bourbon rose, and also of Chinese/Bengale rose hybrids, was bred by Marcheseau in France in 1834 by crossing unknown parents. This small continuously blooming lavender-pink, fragrant rose with clusters of full very saturated pink flowers has long been popular as a container plant for European window gardens, and its low, compact form is well suited for any small garden or for a mass effect in a large border.
Flowers are of medium size 5 - 7.5 cm (2 - 3 in), full (about 26 - 40 petals), initially spherical and when they open the shape becomes cup-shaped, mostly solitary or gathered in small inflorescences, buds are rounded. Of a delicate light-pink color, upon fading a lilac tint appears. HAs a light scent of Tea roses.
Blooms abundantly throughout the entire season from May to October. Does not set fruit.
The plants of this rose are upright and low, compact and neat, of a small size - with a height of about 60 - 90 cm (2–3 ft), with a width up to 60 cm (2 ft). The foliage is small, light-green in colour and has matte surface, typically has from 3 to 5 leaflets. Forms a loose fluffy bush, ideal as a hedge or in groups of 3 pieces. Produces suckers on its own root.
The rose variety "Hermosa" has good resistance to diseases. Frost resistance is good - USDA Zone 6b - 10b.
Name origin
"Hermosa" translated from Spanish means "beautiful".
