Description
Moss roses are called for their sepals and peduncles which are covered with moss-like aromatic glandular growths. Fragrant flowers emerge from elongated buds sparsely covered with light green moss that turns red later in the season. In late spring or early summer, the entire bush is abundantly covered with neat rounded double flowers, initially pure crimson in color, which later turn purple-crimson. The flowers are medium-sized (6-7 cm) and appear on the flowering stems in small clusters, 3 - 5 blooms together. They have a strong Old rose fragrance, and elegantly positioned on thin, arching branches.
Forms large, rather upright and spreading plants of about 150 - 180 cm high and 120-150 cm wide. Has vigorous growth character, and may later require support when mature and well established. The leaves are extraordinary - dense, medium green and matte, quite resistant to diseases.
Blooms profusely and continuously at the beginning of summer, can set fruits. The variety is heat and rain resistant, tolerates summer heat and prolonged rains well.
Winter hardy in climate zones similar to USDA 4b and warmer.
