Description
One of the largest-flowered English Roses, bearing rich golden-yellow blooms in the form of giant cups.
The short, globular with cuspidate apex blooms are about 2 - 3 cm (3/4-11/4") long when the petals start to unfurl. Flowers have an average open size of 7-10 cm (4"-5") in diameter. Borne often singly or several together in the small the clusters of up to 8 flowers. They are very full, the number of petals under normal conditions varies from 55 to 75.
The upper side of the petals is pastel yellow (top edge of petal changing to light yellow towards the center of the petal). The reverse side of the petals is same as above except for a very slight pink blush. The color of the base of the petals is golden-yellow at the apex. The major color on the upper side is light yellow. The general tonality at the end of the first day slightly paler. At the end of the third day, the majority of petals are pastel yellow at the top edge changing to light yellow towards the center of the petal. Petals have thin, soft and silky texture, slightly recurved; they drop off cleanly before drying.
The flowers last on the plant about 7 to 10 days and as a cut flower from 5 to 7 days in normal conditions. In heat they last much less of course. They have a strong Tea fragrance, developing wonderfully combined notes of Sauternes wine and strawberry.
It forms a rounded shrub, with ample foliage – the flowers held beautifully poised on long, arching branches. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. IN warmer climates can easily be trained as a short climber reaching 2.5m (8.2ft). New leaves have deep green colour turning to dark green as the leaves age. Leaflets have oval, cuspidate apex shape with rounded base, serrated edges and leathery texture. Leaflets serration if double, medium. Petiole rachis have green colour with reddish shades, tinged with violet brown. Petiole underside has prickles, 0 to 2 per internode and sparse glandular hairs. Stipules are medium, serrated, about 3 cm (11/4") long.
