Description

The flowers of “Eyeconic” resembles that of the hibiscus and will give your terrace or garden a touch of a Polynesian atoll. Medium sized, semi-double flowers are just about 7-8 cm, and have rich yellow colour with a bright red spot at the base of the petals, which are inherited from the Persian roses. They are gathered in small clusters. Flowering of this variety is very early. It has dense, glossy, and disease resistant foliage. When grown in a pot, the height of the bush is 50-100 cm; when grown in open ground, the height is 120-180 cm and the width is 70 - 100 cm. Recommended for balconies and terraces, can be used as a small climbing rose.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF OF THE VARIETY
The following description provided below is based on the 7 year-old rose plants grown outdoors in Ukraine in the period of June-September. Phenotypic expression may vary with environmental, cultural and climatic conditions, as well as differences in conditions of light and soil.

FLOWER
Flowering of “Eyeconic” is recurrent, in flushes throughout the season, starting from late spring or early summer, and until the frosts. One of the earliest flowering hybrid rose cultivars.

Note, that for good repeating flowering of this variety regular and timely deadheading is required.

Flower bud:
The bud is medium sized and long, about 3 cm long and 1.5 cm in diameter when the petals start to unfurl. The form of the bud is ovoid. When the sepals first divide, the bud color is yellow with greenish shades. When half opened, the upper sides of the petals are rich yellow, and the lower sides of the petals are lemon-yellow.

Sepals regularly arranged, they are medium green on the upper and on the lowers surface. They have length of about 3.5 cm and width of about 1.6 cm, shape is pointed. The upper surface is smooth and the lower surface is glandular. There are 3 lightly appendaged sepals. There are 2 unappendaged sepals with smooth edges.

Receptacles have medium green colour, they are pitcher shaped, small, with a length of about 1 cm and width of about 1 cm, smooth on the surface.

Peduncle is strong, medium sized, averaging about 4 cm in length with smooth surface and medium brown green colour.

Bloom:
The flowers are medium sized, with an average open diameter of about 7 - 8 cm. Borne mostly in small clusters, several together (3-15) having irregular shape.

Stems on which the flower resides have normal strength, with an average length of about 45 cm and diameter of about 4 mm.

When the flowers first open, the bloom form is cupped, and later flattens as the flower fully opens.

Number of petals under normal conditions is about 10 - 12.

The upper sides of the petals are deep yellow, and the reverse sides of the petals are medium yellow. The base of the petals has a large red spot on the upper side, which is typical of the persica hybrids.

The general tonality at end of first day is deep yellow with orange-red spot in the center of the flower. The general tonality at the end of 4 day is pale yellow with pale orange-red spot in the center.

Petals:
The petals of “Eyeconic” are rounded, have smooth texture and surface, their average width is about 40 mm and the length is about 36 mm. Their margin is slightly reflexing with medium undulation.

There can be about 4 petaloids on the flower.

Petals dry out and fall cleanly from the plant.

Flowers are fairly good lastivity on the plant, about 5-7 days under normal growing conditions. As a cut flower - not tested.

Fragrance:
Has almost no fragrance.

Reproductive parts:
The average number of stamens if about 90, with length of about 1 cm.

Anthers have dark brown yellow colour, have length of about 3mm and arranged regularly around the styles.

Filaments starts as deep yellow and slowly transform into dark orange colour, they are about 10 mm long.

Pollen has dark yellow orange colour.

The number of pistils is 24 on average, they have 6 mm length.

Styles have length of about 3mm and medium yellow green colour.

Stigmas are about 1 mm long and have yellow colour.

Hips – not observed.

PLANT
Plant form a dense, bushy shrub, with vigorous and upright growth habit. If provided support can be grown as a small climber.

An adult plant has a height of 120-180 cm, and an average width of 70 - 100 cm.

Foliage:
The foliage is dense and healthy, the average number of leaves is about 7, including terminal leaflet. The number of leaves per flowering stem is 4 per 10 cm in average.

The foliage is medium sized, about 10 cm long and 8 cm wide.

New foliage has medium yellow-green colour on the upper and the lower sides. Old foliage is medium green on the upper side and slightly lighter on the lower side.

Leaflets:
The average size of the normal leaflets is about 4.5 cm long and 3 cm wide. They are oval shaped, the base shape and the apex shape is acuminate.

The texture of the leaflets is leathery, edge is serrated, the type of serration is single and large.

Wood:
The new wood has yellow green colour, the bark is smooth. Old wood is medium yellow green with smooth bark.

Prickles:
There are many prickles on the main canes from base, their number per stem length is 12 per 10 cm. There are fewer prickles on the laterals from main canes, their number per stem length is about 6 per 10 cm.

The prickles have deep concave form, the average length is about 8 mm. Their colour when they are young is yellow-green, and when mature is brown gray.

Small prickles:
Small prickles are absent on main stalks.

Disease resistance:
The variety showed good resistance to mildew, botrytis, and rust under normal growing conditions. The resistance to black spots is above average.

Resistance to rain and heat.
