Description
El Toro can become an exceptional addition to your garden. The uniquely curved crimson-red flowers will brighten up any garden or home. Has exceptionally long living flowers, which can last for over 12 days in a vase or on a plant. Very tolerable to heat and rain, which is a rare quality for a florists rose.
‘El Toro’ has recurrent blooming habit, flowers appear in flushes from early summer until the frosts. The blooming is profuse and nearly continuous.
Flower buds are large, ovoid, pointed. When the sepals start to divide the color is crimson-red, sometimes tinted with dark red, almost black on the edges of the petals. They appear mostly singularly on the plant, of sometimes in a small clusters of 3 to 5 each.
The flowers have quite exquisite and distinct appearance. These flowers endure on the bush for an extended period, resisting the impact of rain for 3-4 weeks. The flower are very double, has average diameter of about 8 -10 cm, having almost high-centered flower form, typical for hybrid teas, however the most inner petals curl together in almost a ball.
The number of petals is about 25 – 30. The petals have smooth texture, they are very thick and strong. This rose variety boasts a distinctive petal formation that is satiny and intricately corrugated. The petals, which can be vivid red, deep crimson, or dark orange, are both carved and substantial. Throughout various stages of blooming, the rose's color may undergo a shift of 1-2 tones towards either the darker or lighter end of the spectrum. Occasionally, exposure to sunlight results in a dark red, almost black patina forming on the petals. As the flowers mature, they may fade, yet remarkably retain their ornamental allure.
The fragrance of ‘El Toro’ is subtle and barely noticeable.
The habit growth is very typical for florists roses: upright, compact, slightly narrow, and well-branched, reaches a height of about 80-120 cm and has a width of about 50 - 70 cm. Its straight, thorn-free shoots contribute to a dense and tidy appearance.
The foliage is robust, exhibiting a dark green hue with a hint of red.
The colour of the young wood is medium green with reddish undertone and pigmentation, the bark is smooth. The old wood is medium green, smooth, with occasional rough patches. The prickles almost absent on the plant.
‘El Toro’ variety demonstrates good resistance to diseases as for a florists rose, rendering it suitable for cultivation even by beginners. Although in colder and wet climates can be susceptible to black spots and mildew.
Has good winter hardiness in USDA zones 6 and warmer, in colder climates requires winter protection.
Overall this is a versatile rose that can enhance any garden. Additionally, it is well-suited for container cultivation on terraces and finds practical use in industrial cutting production.
