Description

Bred in 1840 in France, this wonderful Bourbon rose - with its deep soft pink or silvery-lavender, delicately bending clusters of very full flowers — is grown in the gardens for nearly 200 years. It blooms abundantly and for an extended period in early summer and boasts an intense, rich fragrance.

Description.

From very large, oval, exquisitely shaped buds emerge fairly large (8–9 cm), very full flowers that initially take on the original pompon form and later a cup-shaped form. When fully open, they become slightly quartered; they display a delicate but deep pink colour with perfectly arranged petals and a rich fragrance. A beautiful cool, saturated, delicate pink is evident, with the back of the petals being lighter. At full bloom, the flowers appear silvery-pink with a lilac tint.

The first flowering flush is abundant and lasts for about a month, while a subsequent, mostly singly appearing blooms at the end of summer is much weaker. It forms medium-sized, elongated, red-orange hips.

Forms tall and upright plants, reaching a height of 150 – 250  cm and a width of approximately 100 - 150 cm, with long, flexible canes adorned with large green leaves. The leaves are five-pinnate, medium green with oval-lanceolate leaflets edged with small serrations; the young leaves are a light or linden-green and matte.

It can be grown as a tall shrub rose in compositions and mixed borders with perennials, or, thanks to its long, flexible canes and beautifully drooping flowers, trained on an arch or pergola as a small climbing rose. The variety is vigorous, grows actively, and is hardy in most zones.

Its disease resistance is good (++), although preventive treatments against fungal diseases are necessary, especially in wet climates or weather.

The large double flowers do not withstand prolonged rain and intense heat. Its winter hardiness is good (USDA Zone 6). In harsher climates, winter protection is required.s. The canes are covered with numerous small and tiny, as well as a few large, broad prickles and bristles.

Name origin
