Description
Generously blooming florists rose with classically high-centered shaped, very double flowers. The colour combination is very peculiar mix of dark cherry red and medium purple pink on the reverse. Although the variety is bred for flower production in greenhouse conditions and doesn’t have a exceptional health, the flowers are very resistant to wide range of unfavorable weather conditions.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIETY
FLOWERING
This rose variety is bred for flower production in a greenhouse conditions, therefore it has very good repeating flowering, almost continuous. Blooms in flushes, from early summer until frosts.
The mature and well-established plants in a controlled greenhouse environment are able to produce about 220 – 240 flowering stems per m2 per year.
Flower bud:
The flower buds are large, about 5 to 5.5 cm long. The shape is broad ovate, the colour of the reverse side of the petals is light purple pink and the colour of the inner side of the petals is dark cherry red. The are born mostly singly or in small clusters of 3 to 9 together.
The margin of the sepals often has large foliaceous appendages usually on 3 of the 5 sepals. The colour of the upper surface of the sepals is medium green and the under surface is near medium green with purple red intonations.
The peduncle is strong, erect, and about 14 - 15 cm long, the surface is smooth and slightly hirsute in the lower part. The colour of the peduncle is near medium green, often with purple green intonations.
Bloom:
The flowers are large, the average diameter of the open flower is about 11 – 12 cm. The flowers have high-centered shape, when the flower fully opens the form of the upper part becomes flat, the edges of the petals curl back. They also are very double, the average petals count is about 35 – 40 petals under normal growing conditions.
When the flowers have just opened the colour of the outer petals on the upper surface is dark cherry red, often suffused with much darker colour closer to the edges; while the under surface is medium purple pink, with lighter colour closer to the base and darker closer to the edges. The inner petals are of the same colour. The general tonality from a distance at the end of the first day is dark cherry red with medium pink purple reverse.
The general tonality becomes slightly lighter by end of the 3rd day. The colour of the fully open the colour of the upper surface of the petals becomes bright cherry while the under surface becomes much lighter, light purple pink.
The flowers have excellent lasting quality: on the plant they last about 12 – 16 days; and as a cut flower about 9 – 10 days under normal growing conditions.
Fragrance:
The fragrance is absent on the flowers of this variety.
PLANT
The variety is classified as a Hybri Tea rose with strong and vigorous growth habit. Forms upright, bushy and outwardly plant, reaching a height of about 80 – 130 cm and the width of about 60 – 80 cm at the end of the growing season.
Foliage:
There is a normal quantity of foliage on a plant. The number of leaflets on a normal mid stem leaf is 5. The young foliage has red purple colour and semi-glossy appearance, while the mature leaves are medium green colour. The edges are serrated, the type of serration is large and single.
The surface of the rachis on the upper surface is flat; on the underside is rounded with prickles.
Wood:
The new wood has a near medium green colour often suffused with medium purple brown green, the bark is smooth. The mature wood has a medium brown green colour, the bark is smooth with some rough patches.
Stems:
The flowering stems have a length of about 50 – 80 cm.
Prickles:
There is a relatively moderate quantity of prickles on the stems of this variety. The flowering stems have almost no prickles.
Small prickles:
The small prickles are not observed on the stems of this rose variety.
Disease resistance:
The variety is susceptible to black spot and mildew. The resistance to rust and botrytis is good. Pest resistance has not been tested.
The variety is recommended for growing in climate zones similar to USDA 6 and warmer and require winter protection in more colder climates.
