Description

When it was first introduced to the market it was called a new break in rose breeding due to the unusual colour of its flowers. The colour is wonderful, it can be characterized as russet, or tan, or brown or coffee-with-milk. Apart from that flowers are easily distinguished having flat, very quartered rosette form when they fully open. Forms rounded, upright, slightly outwardly bush with attractive olive green, medium sized leaves. The stems are very thorny, so you might consider being very careful where working near this rose. Amazingly for quite old Floribunda rose variety has very good health.

Parentage

ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
This variety of Rosa hybrida Floribunda ‘Café’ was created by artificial pollination wherein two parents were crossed:

  • The female parent (i.e., seed parent) of the ‘Café’ variety was the unnamed and unpatented seedling, which was a result of cross pollination ow two parents: the female parent (i.e., seed parent) was ‘Golden Glow’, a climbing rose by Brownell, 1937 and the male parent (i.e., pollen parent) was Rosa kordesii H. Wulff by Wilhelm J.H. Kordes II, 1951;

  • The male parent (i.e., pollen parent) of the ‘Café’ variety was the ‘Lavender Pinocchio’ a Floribunda rose by Eugene S. Boerner, 1948.

The lineage of which can be summarized by following:

[(‘Golden Glow’ x Rosa kordesii H. Wulff) x ‘Lavender Pinocchio’].
