DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIETY
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color descriptions using terminology in accordance with the Methuen Handbook of Colour, except where ordinary dictionary significance of color is indicated.

The number of petals under normal conditions is 45 on average.
The upper side of the petals is pale red (12A3) closer to the edge of the petal and lighter (9A3) starting from the center. The reverse side of the petals is the same. The base of petals has yellow (3A7). The major color on the upper side is pale red (12A3). Variegations is not observed on the flowers.

ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
‘Brother Cadfael’ relates to the Rosa hybrida class, was bred by David Austin by crossing the variety ‘Ausfather’ / ‘Charles Austin’, with an unnamed seedling.
BACKGROUND OF THE VARIETY
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety having pink, quartered, scented flowers on a bushy plant which repeatedly flowers.
SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY
The objective was substantially achieved along with other desirable improvements as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in this variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties:
-
Very large, soft pink flowers;
-
Branching habit; and
-
Strong fragrance.
Asexual reproduction of this new variety by budding, as performed at Albrighton, Wolverhampton, England, shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
COMPARISON WITH PARENTS
‘Ausglobe’ / ‘Brother Cadfael’ may be distinguished from its seed parent, by the following combination of characteristics:
- whereas the seed parent has apricot flowers, larger plant and has lighter foliage, ‘Ausglobe’ / ‘Brother Cadfael’ bears cupped flowers of soft pink colour, has darker foliage colour and forms slightly lower plant.

USDA zone 5 and warmer
