Description

The rose has long been a symbol of charm, beauty, elegance, and opulence. Cascades of tender, small flowers fall in waves in large clusters. The fragrance of this rose is another unique and enchanting aspect; it is very strong, with a rich musk character, combined with strong fruity notes and a hint of linden tree.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIETY

FLOWERING

‘Brise Parfum’ has very profuse and repeated flowering. Blooms in flushes, continuously, with very short breaks, from early summer until frosts.

Flower bud:

The small flower buds of this rose variety have ovoid shape. The colour of the bud color as the sepals first unfold is soft pink with. When ¼ open, the petals have a soft pink colour which becomes lighter closer to the tip of the bud. The flower buds are borne in large clusters of about 50 flower buds on average per stem.

Bloom:

The flowers are small, the diameter of the open flower is about 3 - 3.5 cm (1.5"). Upon opening flowers have an expanded and flat form. The flowers aredouble, the number of petals per flower is about 30 under normal growing conditions.

The colour of the flower when just open is soft pink. As the flower fully opens the colour quickly becomes lighter, light pink, and ages further closer to almost white closer to the end of the flowering.

The petals drop off cleanly before drying.

Fragrance:

The fragrance of ‘Brise Parfum’ is very strong and adds to the rose's fabulous charm. The aroma has a prominent musk character with fruity notes and an aspect of linden tree flowers. This rose can fill a large space around the plant with its fragrance, making it a perfect choice for aromatic gardens.

PLANT

The variety ‘Brise Parfum’ has a very strong and vigorous growth habit. Forms large broad and tall climbers, with spreading and slightly arching branches, able to grow over 250 - 400 cm tall and spread over 200 cm wide when mature and well established.

This rose could be a perfect choice for decorating large walls and structures, as well as smaller arches, pillars, and obelisks. The branches of this variety are somewhat thin, so it should receive some support to look its best when flowering.

Foliage:

The foliage of this rose is abundant, small in size and has dark green colour. The surface texture of the foliage is dense, leathery and glossy. The number of leaflets on a normal mid stem leaf is usually 7. The edges of the leaflets are serrated, the type of serration is small and single.

Wood:

The new wood has a medium green colour, rarely suffused with medium purple brown green, the bark is smooth. The mature wood has a dark brown green colour, the bark is smooth with some rough patches.

Prickles:

There is a normal quantity of prickles on the main canes as well as on the laterals of this variety. The prickles are medium-sized, quite thin, and hooked downward at a sharp angle. The young prickles are yellow-green with purple-brown undertones, while the mature prickles have a grayish-brown color.

Small prickles:

Small prickles are absent on the main canes as well as on the laterals from the main canes of this variety.

Disease resistance:

‘Brise Parfum’ has good disease resistance to most common rose pathogens. In more colder and moist climates it tends to suffer from mildew. Pest resistance has not been tested.

The variety is recommended for growing in climate zones similar to USDA 6 and warmer and require winter protection in more colder climates.
