Rose Belle au Bois Dormant

Shrub rose ‘Dornröschen’ with its abundant and repeated flowering would be a good choice for growing as a specimen or in small groups in borders. Well-shaped buds open into an elegant high-centered at first and expanded later bright pink flowers with salmon and yellow shades. The fragrance is ratherer moderate.

Bloom:

The flowers are large, the average diameter of the open flower is about 14 cm. When first open, the flower form is high-centered, but as the petals unfurl the form becomes more flat and expanded. Flowers are double to very double, are born in small clusters, of about 10 blooms together on strong flowering stems.

The colour of the flowers varies from salmon to deep pink with a reverse having more of the yellow shades. As the flower ages the colour becomes more dull and pink. The flowering is profuse, it blooms in flushes from summer to autumn.

PLANT

The rose variety 'Dornröschen' is classified as a Shrub rose. The growth character is vigorous. Form upright, bushy and slightly outwardly plants. Mature and well-established plant has a height of about 120 - 250 cm and the width of about 90 - 120 cm.

Foliage:

There is an abundant quantity of the foliage on the plants of this rose variety. The number of leaflets on normal mid-stem leaves is normally 5, including the terminal leaflet. The average flowering stem has about 9 leaves. The foliage is large.

The colour of the juvenile foliage on the upper and on the lower side is medium brown green with purple red on the margins. The mature foliage has dark brown green colour.

Leaflets:

The leaflets are large, is elliptical, the shape of the leaflet tip is acuminate and the base shape is rounded. The surface texture of the leaflets is leathery,glossy. The edges are serrated, the type of serration is single and large.

Wood:

The new wood of this rose variety has dark green colour with intense purple red tint, the bark is smooth. The colour of the mature wood is dark brown green, the bark remains smooth with few rough patches.

Prickles:

There are many prickles present on the main canes from base and on the laterals from main canes of this rose. The shape of the prickles is straight, pyramidal, and they are large. The colour of the young prickles is dark brown purple while the mature prickles have grey brown colour.

Small prickles:

The small prickles under normal growing conditions are not observed on the main canes and on the laterals from the main canes of this ‘Dornröschen’ variety.

Unfortunately we do not have information about the origin of the name of this rose.
