Parentage

ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
Controlled pollination took place in Ventimiglia, Italy.

Seed parent was Female parent - unnamed seedling which is result of cross pollination the lineage of which can be summarized by following; [‘Papa Meilland’ x (‘Ilona’ x ‘Marina’)].

The Male parent - pollen parent was unnamed seedling (dominated by JP 773372 prior relatives unknown) in a planned breeding program.

SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY From the seedlings of the abovementioned cross pollination were selected a plant by the following selection criteria: selected on the basis of flower size, long vase life, good bud and flower form and unusual yellow with red to purple edge colour.

Propagation was conducted by vegetative methods through many generations in Ventimiglia, Italy. The reproduction of this variety showed that the foregoing and all other characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.

COMPARISON WITH PARENTS
The seed parent was characterised by red flower colour, and the pollen parent was characterised by fewer thorns. Both parents are proprietary breeding stock plants within breeder’s private collection.

COMPARISON WITH THE CLOSEST COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE CULTIVAR
Rose ‘Cocktail’ was chosen as the sole comparator as it is in the opinion of the qualified person the most similar cut flower variety of common knowledge based on flower colour. The parents were not considered for the reasons stated above.

Comparative Trial were taken at Cranbourne, VIC, Jul – Nov 1999. The plants grew in the soil within an environmentally controlled glasshouse. For measurements were taken 20 random samples of each variety collected over a five-month period.

The comparison showed that ‘Ambiance’ / ‘Nirpnufdeu’ has larger flowers of light yellow colour (Group 12C) with medium purple red (Group 57D) edges, flowers have no aroma while the ‘Cocktail’ has darker medium yellow (Group 12B) flowers with light yellow edges that become pink with time and has strong fragrance. Additionally, ‘Ambiance’ / ‘Nirpnufdeu’ has larger medium-green leaves, and ‘Cocktail’ has smaller dark-green leaves.
