Description

'Admired Miranda', another rose by David Austin with a delightful fragrance and perfectly blended, old-fashioned blooms. However, this rose is not for beginners. It will take several years to establish and show its best.

The flowers emerge in small clusters of round yellow-orange flower buds that open into flat, quartered rosette shaped blooms about 8 - 9 cm (3 to 3 1/2 inches) in diameter in warm apricot-pink tones. The flowers are very full. It has a good repeat flowering and blooms in flushes with short breaks.

The fragrance is strong, of a fruity character.

'Admired Miranda' is among the shortest Austin roses, taking quite some time to reach up to 60 - 90 cm (2 - 3 feet) in height and about the same size in width. In warmer climates it can reach about 120 cm in height when mature and well established.

During the first few years, the plant growth is open and somewhat angular, but it starts to fill out as it matures. This rose also grows well in a container, where you can give it the extra care it needs. Another option is to plant three bushes close together, no more than 50 cm (1 1/2 feet) apart, so the canes will interlock, creating a low mound of color at the front of your border.

New growth is red-bronze with bright red thorns. The foliage is shiny dark green, providing a beautiful background for its delicate flowers.

As it was mentioned this rose variety is not for beginners, as it is prone to common rose diseases such as mildew, rust, and black spot. Pest resistance has not been tested yet. But if you enjoy a challenge and love its color and fragrance, this might be the rose to try after you've gained experience with easier varieties.

Name origin

The rose variety 'Admired Miranda' named for one of the main characters in the play ‘The Tempest’ by William Shakespeare, who is the daughter of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan.
