Description
“Guirlande d'Amour” – a wonderful musk hybrid by Louis Lens, which can impress with the very lush, incredibly abundant blooming of a large, undemanding bush, which is as if covered with foam by countless charming white, semi-double, small, lightly fragrant flowers in huge clusters! This modern variety has the charm of old roses and has captivated the hearts of gardeners for more than 30 years. It is the ideal variety of a small rambler rose, which enchants with the exquisite decorativeness and simplicity of old ramblers, health, ease of care, and repeat blooming!
It blooms abundantly with large clusters of white, fragrant, semi-double, flat-shaped flowers with petals of different sizes and shapes that are slightly curled, revealing golden stamens. The variety is very vigorous, producing large clusters of up to 80 flowers, so that during the first flush it is fully covered with flowers from top to bottom. The plant is lush, powerful, dense, and grows quickly. The foliage is beautiful, bright green with yellow speckles. It can be grown both as a small climber and as a shrub rose. Its hardiness and health are excellent, it is not affected by powdery mildew; it is also easy to grow in various conditions, grows in partial shade, and propagates well. Unlike many other ramblers, it blooms repeatedly.
Description
Round buds appear on long, conical clusters and are raised high above the plant. There are very many flowers in the clusters (50–80 per cluster); they are small, 2–3 cm (1.25"), semi-double (9–16 petals), white-cream or cream-white, later opening to pure white, with a cluster of yellow stamens in the center and curled petals. The flowers are very fragrant with a very pleasant musk aroma, attracting bees and other pollinators. It blooms in flushes throughout the season with very short breaks. It is able to bear rose hips – small, light-red rose hips in the shape of a vase.
The bush is powerful, vigorous, densely covered with foliage (including near the base), reaching a height of up to 300–350 cm and a width of up to 250 cm. It is branchy and upright, can reach 3 m or more, has flexible canes armed with prickles. The leaves are small, semi-glossy, of medium green color, 5–7-pinnate with slightly shiny, acuminate/long/oval leaflets, initially light green, then pure green, matte. It can be grown as a bush rose or as a rambler rose, used in the garden to create landscape compositions, for vertical greening, hedges, or as a post. It looks very beautiful on an arch. It can be shaped by pruning along a fence, arch, or pergola. It is resistant to partial shade and rain.
Very resistant to diseases. The variety is frost-hardy. USDA zone from 5b to 9b.
Rambler roses are always desirable in gardens because of their fantastic, long-lasting blooming; Guirlande d'Amour truly presents a fairytale spectacle, a snow-white carnival of delicate, fragrant flowers that impress observers, and its ability to bloom repeatedly makes it impeccable. It belongs to the class of musk hybrids and is widely grown in Northern Europe, where it originates. However, the variety has proven to be tall and is more often grown as a medium-sized rambler rose, while under Ukrainian conditions it is a full rambler rose reaching up to five meters in height.
The “Guirlande d'Amour” rose (translated as Garland of Love) is impressive, as it blooms like a musk rose with large, conical clusters, each containing dozens of delicate, semi-double, snow-white flowers with a yellow center. The mature bush during flowering is almost completely covered with flowers; the second blooming and subsequent ones are not as abundant, but the rose will continue to delight with its flowering, unlike ordinary one-blooming Ramblers. A very beautiful, undemanding, and resilient rose!
